Diabetic Foot Ulcers

Poorly controlled diabetes, in the long-term, can cause ulcers in the feet that are prone to infection and non-healing. Untreated, these ulcers increase in size, rapidly destroying surrounding tissue and penetrating deep into the bone, thereby warranting an amputation to stem the disease. Therefore, early recognition and treatment of the condition offers the best solution for foot salvage.

Bed-sores

A frequent complication in paralyzed or severely debilitated patients, bed-sores are ulcers that occur over the pressure bearing bony prominences on the back of the body. These, if they develop, can be painful and difficult to treat. Early ulcers may heal with conservative care, but larger, long-standing sores require surgical intervention.

Revision Surgery

Revision surgery involves improving upon or correcting the results of previous surgeries and can be one of the most challenging tasks. A strong core knowledge and close liaison with the patient is essential to obtain satisfactory results.

Functional restoration

Plastic surgery is not only about form but also aims to restore normal bodily functions. For instance, foot drop, caused by nerve injury or disease can hinder normal ambulation. Using the techniques of plastic surgery, normal ankle function can be restored by tendon transfers.
